Remote Start Failed? It May Not Be a Dead Car Battery

Remote start failed on a cold morning? Tell Rick’s whether the car also fails to start normally before requesting a boost.

A remote command and a starting attempt are different

When you are getting ready to leave a Lake View East parking space, an unsuccessful remote-start request can look like a breakdown from inside your apartment. First distinguish the app or remote response from what the vehicle actually does.

If you can safely access the car, have the proper key and follow its normal starting instructions, note whether it starts normally. Do not run an engine in a closed garage or other enclosed area. Ford’s remote-start precautions warn that toxic exhaust makes enclosed-area starting dangerous.

Manufacturers can deliberately block remote start

In Ford’s published remote-start limitations, an open hood, an active perimeter alarm, a transmission outside Park, the ignition being on, a check-engine light or insufficient battery voltage can prevent operation. Ford also cautions against remote starting with low fuel.

These are model-specific examples, not a diagnosis for every vehicle. Check the manual and any message displayed by your own system. Do not bypass hood switches or other interlocks to make remote start work.

Choose help based on the actual symptoms

The car starts normally: a failed remote command alone does not establish a need for a jump start or replacement battery. For a persistent remote-only problem, use the manufacturer’s support instructions or have the system checked by an appropriate repair provider.

The car clicks, cranks slowly or does not crank: describe that separately from the remote failure. Rick’s can discuss 12V or 24V jump-start assistance for a suitable vehicle. Those symptoms can have more than one cause, and a boost cannot fix every no-start.

It cranks normally but will not run: say so before booking. Report warning messages, recent stalling and any previous starting attempts. That information helps determine whether battery assistance is a reasonable next step.

A new battery is not an app repair

If the battery is found to need replacement, Rick’s offers mobile battery replacement subject to compatible stock, installation requirements and access. A remote-start error alone is not enough to choose that service.

Rick’s roadside services do not include remote-start installation, app-account troubleshooting or key cutting and programming. Explain whether the remote feature is factory-equipped or aftermarket so the request is not mistaken for a simple discharged-battery call.

What to tell Rick’s before dispatch

For Lake View East and Chicago’s North Side, give the exact address and vehicle year, make and model. Describe the normal starting response, the remote message and whether you can unlock the car and open the hood.

For a garage, report the entrance, level, height, ramps, turns and working room. A building address may not identify the entrance to a rear lot. Rick’s is open 24/7; call to confirm suitable service, current availability, an arrival estimate and the total quote.
