Car won’t restart after a collision? Once the scene is safe, call Rick’s before treating it as a routine dead battery.
Call 911 first for injuries, fire or immediate traffic danger, and follow responders’ directions. Tell Rick’s if police or another responder controls access to the car. A roadside-service request does not replace emergency response or permission to remove the vehicle.
When you call, lead with the collision—even if the car looks mostly intact and the immediate problem is that it will not start. That changes the assessment. Do not book a jump start while leaving out the impact, deployed airbags, leaking fluid or damaged wheels.
Ford’s fuel-shutoff guidance explains that the vehicle covered can stop fuel flow after a moderate to severe collision; not every impact activates that feature. Ford also warns that the fuel system needs checking after a crash because an unchecked problem can create a fire risk.
This is one manufacturer example, not a diagnosis of your car. A no-start alone cannot establish whether the battery, collision-related damage or a protective shutoff is responsible. Adding battery power does not inspect or repair a fuel system.
Do not use a reset sequence from another model as a shortcut. Follow the instructions for your exact vehicle and professional advice about its condition. Tell us about any restart, reset or jump-start attempts already made rather than repeating them to demonstrate the problem.
Report only what you can observe safely. You do not need to inspect underneath the vehicle or determine which component failed before calling. If smoke, fire or another immediate hazard appears, contact emergency services.
Rick’s provides compatible light-duty wheel-lift towing, with dollies when appropriate. Damaged-suspension towing requires a vehicle-specific equipment and access check. A car that could use this setup before a collision may need a different assessment afterward.
Rick’s does not provide flatbed, medium-duty, heavy-duty or motorcycle towing. If the condition or manufacturer’s transport requirements need equipment we do not offer, a suitably equipped provider is necessary. A successful restart is not confirmation that the car is safe to drive away.
For a Lake View East pickup, give the exact street, cross street and side of the road—not just a nearby business. For a rear lot in Lincoln Park or elsewhere on Chicago’s North Side, identify the entrance and gate restrictions. Garage access requires confirmation of height, ramps, turns and loading room.
Have the receiving shop’s address and delivery instructions ready. Rick’s takes calls 24/7. Once the scene allows transport, call to confirm equipment suitability, availability, an arrival estimate and the total quote for the described condition.
Call Rick’s for towing and roadside assistance. Tell us your location and the service you need. Rick’s is open 24/7; availability and vehicle suitability are confirmed for each request.
