Turn OFF A/C; turn heater to MAX. This pulls heat from the engine into the cabin.
If the gauge spikes or you see steam, pull over ASAP. Park safely, hazards on.
Do NOT open the radiator cap hot. Wait until everything is cool to the touch.

Top up coolant: Add 50/50 premix to the overflow reservoir up to the “FULL/COLD” line.
Emergency only: plain water works to reach a shop—flush/replace coolant later.
Look for obvious leaks: Hoses, clamps, radiator seams, heater hoses near the firewall.
Tiny hose pinhole? Wrap self-fusing silicone tape tightly as a temporary patch and retighten the clamp.
Check radiator fans: Key ON (engine off). Turn A/C ON—many cars trigger the fans.
If fans don’t spin, check the cooling-fan fuse/relay (replace only with the same amp rating).
Inspect the serpentine belt: If missing/loose/noisy, do not drive—you’ll overheat again.
Check engine oil level: Low oil = more heat. Top up if you have the right grade.

Keep heater on; drive gently 25–40 mph, prefer open roads over stop-and-go.
Watch the gauge. If it climbs again, stop immediately and let it cool or call for a tow.
Temp gauge in the red or “ENGINE HOT” warning returns
Steam, sweet coolant smell, or coolant pouring out
Fans dead, broken belt, white smoke from the exhaust, or knocking/loss of power
Low coolant / small leak: Top up; tape a tiny hose pinhole; monitor closely.
Thermostat stuck closed: No safe roadside fix—tow it.
Dead cooling fan / bad relay: Fuse swap might help; otherwise tow.
Radiator cap not holding pressure: Replace the cap; don’t improvise with a hot cap.
Water pump failure: Tow it—continuing to run can destroy the engine.
50/50 coolant, 1L water, self-fusing silicone tape, spare fuses, gloves, rags, flashlight, funnel, basic socket/screwdriver set.
