A door that will not latch is a repair and transport problem. Keep the car parked and call Rick’s to discuss safe towing.

If your keys are inside a closed vehicle and you cannot get in, authorized car lockout service may be appropriate. If you can open the door but it will not stay securely closed, an unlock service does not repair the latch.
Describe the problem clearly when calling: “keys locked inside” and “door will not stay shut” lead to different preparations. Rick’s verifies ownership for vehicle entry and does not make or program keys. A damaged door, latch or striker needs assessment by a qualified repair facility.
Keep the vehicle parked if the door will not latch securely. Do not ask a passenger to hold it closed or use a rope or seat belt as a substitute for a functioning latch.
NHTSA’s April 30, 2015 advisory about specific Ford and Lincoln vehicles warned that defective latches could let doors open while driving. It told affected owners not to drive after difficulty latching a door—even if it seemed to catch—and to arrange a tow. That is a historical, vehicle-specific advisory, not a claim that your car has an open recall.
If a door opens while moving, stop as safely as possible. Call 911 if anyone is injured or in immediate danger.
Once parked away from traffic, tell us which door is affected and whether it remains open, bounces back or shows a door-ajar warning. Mention a recent impact or visible damage. Do not reach into a moving latch mechanism, repeatedly slam the door or attempt to dismantle it beside traffic.
A warning light by itself does not identify the failed part. Explain what the door actually does, and let the repair facility assess the cause. If you are safely parked, the NHTSA recall lookup can help you check your VIN; it is not a substitute for addressing a door that will not close.
Call for an equipment and access check before making arrangements. A door that cannot be secured may affect safe loading and transport. Report its position and any body damage so the operator can determine whether the pickup is suitable; service cannot be promised from the symptom alone.
Rick’s handles compatible light-duty vehicles with wheel-lift equipment and dollies when appropriate for the drivetrain. Provide the year, make, model, whether the car rolls and steers, key availability and your destination. Read about North Side wheel-lift towing for the service details.
In Lake View East, send the nearest cross streets, the side of the street and whether the vehicle is curbside, in an alley or inside a garage. Say which side has the door problem and whether adjacent parked vehicles limit access.
For garage pickups, confirm entrance height, ramps, turns and available loading room. Do not move an unsafe vehicle just to make access easier. Confirm the repair shop’s receiving arrangements, then ask Rick’s for availability, an arrival estimate and the quote. Phone assistance is available 24/7 in English and Spanish.
Safety reference: U.S. DOT/NHTSA door-latch advisory, April 30, 2015. Follow current manufacturer instructions for your exact vehicle and any applicable recall.
For a closed vehicle with keys inside, see safe steps when locked out of a car. For pickup planning, see how to prepare for a tow or browse all driver guides.
If the vehicle cannot be driven safely, review Rick’s wheel-lift towing. Give the pickup and destination, vehicle details, keys, drivetrain and roll/steer condition so equipment and access can be checked.
