Car Won’t Start Before Street Cleaning in Lake View East?

Car won’t start before street cleaning in Lake View East? Know what to tell Rick’s when arranging a jump start or tow.

By Rick’s Emergency Roadside Assistance · October 15, 2026 · Lake View East

Check the sign before arranging help

A no-start is frustrating enough. Finding a street-cleaning sign beside the car adds a deadline. Read the date, hours and side of the street on the sign, then tell us that information when you call.

Chicago’s 2026 street-sweeping announcement says the program runs from April through November. That makes this a useful fall check, but it does not tell you when your particular block will be swept. Use the City’s current schedule and the signs at the vehicle’s location. This article does not identify a specific Lake View East block as restricted today.

Call early with the actual deadline. Rick’s cannot promise arrival before a parking restriction starts or an exemption from a ticket. If the vehicle creates an immediate traffic danger, call 911 before arranging routine roadside service.

Jump start or towing: describe what the car does

Clicking, slow cranking or a car that sat unused can be consistent with a discharged battery, but those symptoms are not a diagnosis. A jump start may provide starting assistance when suitable; it does not repair a starter, charging-system fault or another mechanical problem.

Tell us if the engine cranks normally but will not start, the car starts and stalls, a warning appeared before it stopped, or you have already tried a boost. We may need to discuss wheel-lift towing rather than assume another jump will solve it. Vehicle fit and the manufacturer’s transport requirements still need checking.

For an AWD or 4WD vehicle, missing keys, locked steering or a wheel that will not roll, mention that before the truck is assigned. Rick’s does not offer flatbed towing. A suitable pickup must be confirmed for the actual vehicle and parking position.

Have these details ready when you call

  • The exact street address, nearest cross streets and side of the street.
  • The date and time shown on the parking restriction.
  • Vehicle year, make, model and drivetrain if known.
  • What happens when you try to start it and any previous boost attempts.
  • Whether keys are available and the vehicle rolls and steers.
  • For towing, the authorized destination and receiving arrangements.

A clear description lets us discuss the service, availability, arrival estimate and total price. Booking is not confirmed simply by sending a message.

Lake View East pickup details that matter

Near Broadway, Clark, Belmont or Diversey Parkway, give the actual building number and vehicle position. “Near the harbor” or “off Belmont” can cover several entrances and parking areas. Mention a tight parallel spot, an alley, a garage entrance or a gate controlled by building staff.

Explain the access you know about; do not assume a wheel-lift truck can enter every garage or approach every parked car. The Lake View East service guide covers local pickup details, and the towing preparation guide explains the handoff and destination information.

If the car is already missing

A missing parked car is a different problem from a car that will not start. Chicago says vehicles can be relocated as well as towed. Start with the City’s vehicle search or 311. The search covers City-towed or relocated vehicles; a private-company tow may not appear. Rick’s does not operate the City’s vehicle-search or impound system.

Questions before booking

Does booking a jump start protect me from a street-cleaning ticket?

Rick’s cannot promise a parking exemption or arrival before the restriction begins. Check the current sign and tell Rick’s the deadline when discussing availability.

Can Rick’s tow from a tight parallel-parking space?

Possibly. The vehicle, drivetrain, keys, wheel condition, parking position and available working space must be assessed. A wheel-lift pickup is not suitable for every vehicle or space.

What if the car starts after a jump but dies again?

Report whether it stalled while running or failed to restart after being switched off. Those are different symptoms. Further assessment, battery help or towing may be needed; a successful jump does not establish that the fault is repaired.

Official sources and current parking information

Check the current City information and the signs at the parked vehicle. This guide is not a block-by-block restriction notice.
