Run-Flat Tire Losing Pressure: Keep Driving or Tow?

A run-flat tire has limits after pressure loss. Check your tire’s instructions, stop if unsafe, and call Rick’s for towing options.

Confirm what is fitted before relying on run-flat capability

A car originally supplied with run-flat tires may have different replacement tires now. Check the fitted tire’s identification and manufacturer guidance when safely parked. A brand name or a tire-pressure warning alone does not establish run-flat capability.

Bridgestone describes run-flat tires as allowing limited travel after a puncture and tells drivers to check the manufacturer’s speed and distance limits. Its stated limits for its products should not be treated as permission for every tire, every vehicle or every type of damage.

A maximum range is not a guarantee for your trip

Bridgestone’s maintenance guidance says usable distance after pressure loss depends on factors including load, speed, handling, temperature and damage. If you do not know how long the tire has been low, you cannot confidently count a fresh allowance from the moment you notice it.

Do not continue if handling is unstable, there is severe vibration or visible damage makes travel unsafe. Reach a safe stopping location without abrupt maneuvers. Call 911 for immediate danger; discuss compatible towing once safely stopped.

Report the warning and any driving since it appeared

  • Which wheel is affected, and what warning or pressure reading do you see?
  • What tire make, model and run-flat marking are fitted?
  • Approximately how far have you driven since the warning?
  • Was there a pothole, curb impact, noise or sudden handling change?
  • Is there a usable spare and a wheel-lock key?

These details help plan service. They do not confirm whether the tire is repairable; a tire professional must evaluate its condition and applicable manufacturer policy.

Spare installation or transport to a tire shop

Rick’s provides usable-spare installation. If no suitable spare is available, discuss a light-duty wheel-lift tow. Dollies may be appropriate for compatible AWD or 4WD vehicles, subject to manufacturer requirements and equipment fit.

Tell us if the wheel is bent, the suspension is damaged or the car will not roll or steer. A run-flat label does not resolve those conditions. Rick’s does not promise a curbside patch or replacement tire from this guide.

North Side pickup details

For Lake View East and North Side pickups, give cross streets and the side of the street. For a garage, provide height restrictions, ramps, turns, level and loading room. Confirm the tire shop’s destination and receiving arrangements before dispatch.

Call Rick’s 24/7 for current availability, an arrival estimate and price. Have the vehicle’s year, make, model, drivetrain and key status ready.

Manufacturer sources and related guides

If the vehicle cannot be driven safely, review Rick’s wheel-lift towing. Give the pickup and destination, vehicle details, keys, drivetrain and roll/steer condition so equipment and access can be checked.
