Garage & Tight-Space Towing in Lake View East, Chicago
Car stuck in a garage or tight space? Call Rick’s with the clearance, access and vehicle details to assess a suitable pickup.
A garage pickup example
Rick’s truck and a hatchback are pictured inside a parking garage. Tell us the entrance height, level, turns, vehicle position and whether it rolls and steers so the job can be assessed.
Describe the entire route to the car
The posted entrance height is only one part of access. Explain any lower beams, pipes, tight turns, ramps or level changes on the route, plus the space around the disabled vehicle. If the information is unknown, say so; do not enter an unsafe area to measure it.
For a rear alley pickup, provide the building address and the alley entrance cross street. Mention gates, parked delivery vehicles and whether there is room to approach the vehicle. Coordinate gate access with the property manager. Do not block traffic or push the vehicle into the alley to prepare for a truck.
A car fits—but can a tow truck reach it?
For a disabled vehicle in a garage, alley or tight parking space, Rick’s first needs an access description. Wheel-lift equipment can be useful for some restricted pickups, but it does not guarantee access to every garage.
Report the posted clearance, entrance width, turns, ramps, gates and the vehicle’s position. Measurements and access restrictions matter more than describing a space as “small.”
Prepare these details without moving the vehicle
- Street address and the actual entrance to the parking area.
- Garage level, posted clearance and any height changes along the route.
- Whether the vehicle faces inward or outward and whether another car blocks it.
- Key access and whether it can roll, steer or shift as designed.
- Vehicle drivetrain, wheel condition and ground clearance.
If a property manager controls a gate, arrange access before confirming the pickup. Do not force the transmission into neutral or push the vehicle down a ramp.
A roadside service may be enough
If the immediate problem is a discharged battery, locked-in keys or a flat tire with a usable spare, discuss roadside assistance. Access and safe working room still need to be assessed. A jump start does not resolve every no-start, and a flat tire without a usable spare may require transportation.
For towing, tell Rick’s the preferred destination and ask whether the entire pickup-to-delivery route is suitable.
When another approach is needed
Low ceilings, steep ramps, locked wheels or severe damage may prevent a suitable wheel-lift pickup. Do not remove vehicle parts or bypass safety systems to make it fit. Rick’s will need to discuss the limits of the request before any arrangement is confirmed.
Use the tow-preparation guide for the broader intake checklist and Lincoln Park or Lakeview coverage for local pickup information.
Questions before arranging help
What minimum garage height can you guarantee?
No universal clearance is promised. Report the posted height and all ramps, turns and entrance restrictions so the actual route can be assessed.
Can you tow a car without keys from a tight space?
Missing keys can affect steering, shifting and loading. Explain the vehicle and its position before arranging service; access and equipment compatibility must be confirmed.
Need help with a restricted pickup?
Call with your exact location and vehicle details. Confirm service suitability, price and the current arrival estimate.
More wheel-lift information
Towing a car from a tight parallel parking space
For a car parked along Broadway or another busy Lake View East street, describe the space in front of and behind it, its direction, nearby traffic and whether another vehicle blocks access. Explain whether keys are available, the steering unlocks and the wheels can roll. Photos from a safe position may help the operator assess access.
Wheel-lift towing is not a guarantee that a truck can reach or extract the car. Truck positioning, drivetrain requirements and the available space still determine suitability. Rick’s does not offer specialized low-clearance garage equipment or flatbed towing. Confirm access before dispatch; do not push the car into traffic, jack it up or attempt to drag locked wheels.
Can you tow a car that is boxed in by parked vehicles?
Possibly, but the operator must assess the space, approach, vehicle condition and equipment requirements. A blocked car may require access coordination or a different provider. Describe the obstruction before booking; do not move another person’s vehicle yourself.

Before you call
Share your location, vehicle year, make and model, symptoms, key access and any restrictions.
For towing, include the destination, drivetrain and whether the vehicle rolls and steers.
Lake View East is Rick’s primary service area. Coverage does not mean a truck is stationed in every neighborhood.
